Race 2

If there’s one race where Race 2 is already ahead, it’s for The Ghanta Awards next year. If nothing else, its WTF moments would be really hard to beat.

Exotic locations, flashy cars, high octane action sequences, hot looking glamorous actors showing plenty of skin while double crossing each other or siding with each other in different permutations and combinations (read as plot twists) – Abbas Mustan’s Race 2 has all these elements in place. And, for it to sustain for more than half an hour, it needed a clever plot, a well-written screenplay with witty dialogues, a peppy and hummable soundtrack and an ensemble of well-fleshed out characters all complemented with a technical finesse that had you glued to the edge of your seat. However, the film forgot to put all these other elements in place and consequently, falters badly.

Barring the money spent like water on the lush production value and some of the somewhat expertly executed action sequences (though the final fight aboard the plane is tacky as hell), the film really has nothing going for it. The script is full of bizarre and outrageously illogical moments with silly twists, almost parodying the action thriller genre rather than creating any real thrills or entertainment, while the dialogues, particularly the English ones, are a hoot though they try really hard to be cool and happening.

Of the cast, Anil Kapoor hits a new low as an actor, while Deepika, Jacqueline and John vie with each other for the worst performance in the film. In fact, John’s so-called macho screams of“Haaa…” are plain embarrassing and unintentionally funny and one has to say he wins this one. Maybe, it’s because he has something to do in the film while the girls mostly have to just stand about in stiff-model like poses wearing skimpy designer wear. They are unable to enunciate even a single sentence of dialogue properly. Saif is the only one who is so-so and as for Amisha Patel, well let’s just say one had even forgotten she still exists.

All in all, If there’s one race where Race 2 is already ahead, it’s for The Ghanta Awards next year. If nothing else, its WTF moments would be really hard to beat.
