High Five: Aamir Khan’s Half Century

So, the first of the three Khans gets to be 50 today – Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan!

We celebrate the occasion by going down memory lane and highlighting Aamir’s career by choosing one song from each decade of his acting career, starting with the 1970’s where as a child actor, he charms you with his endearing portrayal of the youngest of three brothers in his uncle, Nasir Hussain’s blockbuster, Yaadon ki Baaraat (1973).

The next one from the 1980s is obvious. This wonderful intro song is from Aamir’s star making film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). Little wonder he became a big heart throb following the film.

From the 1990s, it’s the first pairing of Aamir and AR Rahman. Yes, its also Rahman’s first film in Hindi, Rangeela (1995), where Aamir defined how a lovable tapori should be played.

2001 saw Aamir, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna redefine male bonding in Farhan Akhtar’s stylish directorial debut, Dil Chahta Hai.  The little patch of hair beneath Aamir’s lower lip became quite the fashion trend!

And finally one from the all time highest grossing Indian film of all time, PK (2015), reuniting Aamir with his 3 idiots (2009) director Rajkumar Hirani. PK sees Aamir as an innocent, lovable alien, who finds himself taking on a fraudulent God-man (Saurabh Shukla)! A lovely song here where the alien tries finding God…
